The prototype of the Moscow myrrh-streaming icon of the Tsar-Martyr was painted in 1996 in California, by the icon painter Pavel Tikhomirov, commissioned by representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
After eight days from His birth, our Lord Jesus Christ submitted to circumcision. He was circumcised to make His humanity clear. Yet, beyond this, He also underwent physical circumcision to establish spiritual circumcision for us.
