About Nun Elisabeth Wuertenberger

As the editor of our German-language website, Nun Elisabeth knows from her own life that the search for Truth is not always a straight line. Growing up in East Germany, she lived in a world where faith was often brushed off as superstition. Yet, even in that unlikely soil, her spiritual journey took root through a single, life-changing encounter: an image of the Mother of God. After one heartfelt prayer to her, Elisabeth discovered that she could speak to God simply and honestly, just as a child speaks to a loving parent.

That discovery started a spiritual odyssey, leading her through several Christian traditions. She started in the Lutheran church and moved through Catholicism. Along the way, she served in all sorts of roles that deepened her understanding of faith and service: looking after children in a Carmelite hospital, studying both medicine and theology, and teaching the faith in a Catholic parish.

The real turning point came when she discovered the Jesus Prayer and the Orthodox Divine Liturgy. Coupled with a growing fascination for Russian culture and language, these encounters drew her steadily towards Orthodoxy. Eventually, this path led her to St Elisabeth Convent. Through all those twists and turns, Nun Elisabeth has learned a fundamental truth that now guides he in everything she does: in Christ, nothing is accidental. Every gift, every unexpected detour, every hardship—it can all be turned into a tool for salvation.

This conviction sits at the heart of her editorial work. She approaches every text with prayer and gratitude, seeing her role as far more than just translating news about convent life. Her mission is to help German-speaking readers spot the same quiet, loving guidance of God in their own lives that she learned to see in hers.
