As the editor of our English-language website and one of the first twelve sisters to be tonsured at St Elisabeth Convent, Nun Maria understands that for spiritual writing to be any good, it has to speak to the heart just as much as the head. She knows that the deepest truths are often best said in the simplest words.
She did not grow up with religion at home, but she found the Church when she was thirteen, thanks to the quiet persistence of believing friends and a godmother who brought her along to services on feast days. Her baptism happened without any great fanfare—yet it changed everything. As her faith deepened, confession and communion became the rhythm of her days. She started serving as a lay sister, visiting hospitals and care homes, looking after the sick, talking simply about God, and helping them get ready for confession and the Holy Mysteries. Those years taught her what really brings comfort, what worries people, and how often you find the most important things in the small details we usually miss.
While she was studying at university in Minsk, her commitment to the faith grew even stronger. She kept the Scriptures close to hand and was always on the lookout for books on faith and the monastic life. All of that experience now guides her work as an editor: she has an instinct for what rings true spiritually, and an ear for words that meet people exactly where they are. Her life as a nun grounds it all in prayer and obedience to the Church. She serves alongside a dedicated team of brothers and sisters, working carefully and with a pastoral heart so that every publication truly helps readers draw a little closer to God.
