Descriptions of the bodiless angels are present throughout the text of the Holy Scripture. As part of the invisible world, they reside in Heaven. They live in the light of God’s presence and sing Him eternal glory. They are also present in the lives of humans. Every nation, city and individual believer have a guardian angel.
Archangel Michael is the commander of the heavenly hosts selected by the Lord. He expelled from Heaven the fallen spirits who rebelled against Him. Many angels have delivered to people important messages from God. For example, Archangel Gabriel was chosen by God to herald the coming of Christ to the world.
They are also called commanders of divine armies and ministers of divine glory. However, their exact number is not revealed to humans. They fall into nine orders - Thrones, Cherubim, Seraphim, Dominions, Powers, Authorities, Principalities, Archangels and Angels. In the narrow sense, only a messenger of God can be called an angel, but in practice, we apply this name to all bodiless powers.
