Martyrs Acindynus, Pegasius, Aphthonius

Acindynus, Pegasius and Anempodistus were members of the royal court under King Shapur II of Persia. The king had launched a vicious prosecution of Christians, and envious pagans had reported them as worshippers of Christ. The king ordered them to stand trial. He had them whipped, and tortured. Not only did they endure their torments with bravery and gladness, but they also had their wounds healed by the grace of God. At the sight of the healings, Aphthonius, a soldier of the king, believed in Christ and was beheaded. As the torments of the three continued, the noblemen Elpidophorus nobleman embraced the Lord, along with seven thousand other Persians. Acyndynus, Pegasius and Amempodistus died at the stake together with the king's mother.
